The Seven Years War 1754 - 1763

1749 - The Iroquios Confederacy permitted English settlements in Ohio Valley, but the French, who has been the first explorers and fur traders, feared their loss of trade and built a chain of Forts 1753 along the Ohio river valley, land, which British has also claimed. 1754 May - Washington ambushed a small detachment of French soldiers in Great Meadows, Pennsylvania, with help from and Indian Chief, killing 10 and capturing 22. This has been credited to have started the war. French set out to avenge the attack, and Washington was defeated. He signed a document which he presumed stated he attacked at Great Meadows, but instead stated he assassinated the party. Disclosure of the attack, set off the world war. Britain and France sent soldiers to contest for control of 'Ohio Country' .

Austrian Grenadier, Deutschmeister Regiment

1755 - French and Indian fighters hiding in the woods, ambushed the British Americans in what became known as Braddocks defeat. In the beginning, the French were victorious, with the exception of the Battle of Lake George, and the capture of 2 French ships. This precipitated the declaration of war between France and Britain. In Europe, France and Austria joined forces, while Britain and Prussia became partners. Russia later joined France and Austria. Frederick II (Frederick the Great) won battle after battle on the Continent.

This regiment was raised in 1740, commanded by August Ferdinand Prinz von Preussen

Great Britain used naval power to contain France in Europe and capture French colonies around the world. Failing first in North America at Oswego 1756 and Fort William Henry in 1757. When William Pitt became the Prime Minister of Britain in 1757 he doubled their efforts, giving money to Frederick II so that the Prussians could contain the French power in Europe. Pitt had victories at Quebec, Minden, Ticonderoga and Quiberon Bay 1759 - Known as the Year of Victories.

The Garde du Corps was the only regiment to wear a silvered cuirass. The regiment was permanently stationed at Potsdam and was highly proficient.

1761 Bourbon Spain entered the war but British armies captured Havana, Cuba and Philippines. 1763 Peace of Paris ended the war, giving Canada and India to Britain. France was left with two islands off the coast of Newfoundland. Frederick II retained Silesia. While France, Austria and Russia had almost nothing to show after seven years of war.
